Yeremia 13:2
Konteks13:2 So I bought the shorts as the Lord had told me to do 1 and put them on. 2
Yeremia 16:10
Konteks16:10 “When you tell these people about all this, 3 they will undoubtedly ask you, ‘Why has the Lord threatened us with such great disaster? What wrong have we done? What sin have we done to offend the Lord our God?’
Yeremia 27:13
Konteks27:13 There is no reason why you and your people should die in war 4 or from starvation or disease! 5 That’s what the Lord says will happen to any nation 6 that will not be subject to the king of Babylon.
Yeremia 30:4
Konteks30:4 So here is what the Lord has to say about Israel and Judah. 7
Yeremia 32:8
Konteks32:8 Now it happened just as the Lord had said! My cousin Hanamel 8 came to me in the courtyard of the guardhouse. He said to me, ‘Buy my field which is at Anathoth in the territory of the tribe of Benjamin. Buy it for yourself since you are entitled as my closest relative to take possession of it for yourself.’ When this happened, I recognized that the Lord had indeed spoken to me.
Yeremia 36:4
Konteks36:4 So Jeremiah summoned Baruch son of Neriah. Then Jeremiah dictated to Baruch everything the Lord had told him to say and Baruch wrote it all down in a scroll. 9
Yeremia 36:7
Konteks36:7 Perhaps then they will ask the Lord for mercy and will all stop doing the evil things they have been doing. 10 For the Lord has threatened to bring great anger and wrath against these people.” 11
Yeremia 42:20
Konteks42:20 You are making a fatal mistake. 12 For you sent me to the Lord your God and asked me, ‘Pray to the Lord our God for us. Tell us what the Lord our God says and we will do it.’ 13
Yeremia 48:8
Konteks48:8 The destroyer will come against every town.
Not one town will escape.
The towns in the valley will be destroyed.
The cities on the high plain will be laid waste. 14
I, the Lord, have spoken! 15

[13:2] 2 tn Heb “upon your loins.” The “loins” were the midriff of the body from the waist to the knees. For a further discussion including the figurative uses see R. C. Dentan, “Loins,” IDB 3:149-50.

BDB 90 s.v. בְּ 3 and see parallels in 1 Kgs 2:23; 2 Sam 23:17 for the nuance of “at the cost of your lives”). This fits the context better than “you are deceiving yourselves” (KBL 1035 s.v. תָּעָה Hif 4). The reading here follows the Qere הִתְעֵיתֶם (hit’etem) rather than the Kethib which has a metathesis of י (yod) and ת (tav), i.e., הִתְעֵתֶים. The Greek text presupposes הֲרֵעֹתֶם (hare’otem, “you have done evil”), but that reading is generally rejected as secondary.

[48:8] 14 tn Heb “The valley will be destroyed and the tableland be laid waste.” However, in the context this surely refers to the towns and not to the valley and the tableland itself.
[48:8] sn Most commentaries see a reference to the towns in the Jordan valley referred to in Josh 13:27 and the towns mentioned in Josh 13:15-17 which were on the high tableland or high plateau or plain north of the Arnon. The mention of the towns in the first half of the verse is broader than that because it would include all the towns in the southern half of Moab between the Arnon and Zered as well as those mentioned in the second half in conjunction with the valley and the high plateau north of the Arnon.
